BRIEF ON KENYA SECONDARY SCHOOL CURRICULUM

The New Secondary Education curriculum has a total of 21 subjects, which are offered as follows. 

A: FORMS ONE AND TWO

Students at this level will be expected to take twelve (12) subjects selected as follows:

Ten (10) core subjects including:

1. Mathematics

2. English

3. Kiswahili

4. Biology

5. Chemistry

6. Physics

7. Geography

8. History and Government

9. Physical Education

10. One Subject from:

 v     Christian Religious Education

 v     Islamic Religious Education

 v     Hindu Religious Education

11. Two (2) Optional subjects selected from:

v     Business Studies

 v     Agriculture

 v     Home Science

 v     Arabic

 v     French

 v     German

 v     Music

 v     Art and Design

 v     Computer Studies

B: FORMS THREE AND FOUR

At this level students will take a minimum of seven (7) subjects and a maximum of nine(9) subjects selected as follows:

1. Three (3) Core subjects:

 v     English

 v     Kiswahili

 v     Mathematics

2. At least Two (2) Science Subjects from:

 v     Biology

 v     Physics

 v     Chemistry

3. Other subjects to be selected from any of those a student has studied in forms one and two.

 v     Physical Education (PE)
